Last week I came across an article that reported how Google had had virtually made organic search results irrelevant on mobile. This of course threw me into a bit of a spin. Did it mean that we all had to pay to be shown on Google these days? It is what we all fear, deep down. However, there was a mention at the end of this article that it was an experiment and that we were not sure if this was going to be the status quo forever.
So I contacted David Amerland over the weekend to get some clarification.
He also said that Google is always conducting experiments on us – it was best to stick to the strategy of building trust, reputation and authority through content. It is likely he said, that things may change again.
Well, guess what, it has changed again, back to normal. So I have explained the roller coaster in a video here. Bron

Thanks for that explanation Bronwyn and particularly including ” small” and “regional” in the mix.

Hello Margaret, great to hear from you. Glad you liked it. Regional and small make up more than 80% of the tourism industry, collectively a huge player and not to be ignored. Bron

That experiment by Google where they only showed search results for their commissionable partners could be a taste of things to come. If they do go down that road it could eventually open the doors for a genuine search engine that delivers search results based purely on relevance uncontaminated by commission bias. Surely Google is too smart to kill the goose that has been giving them golden eggs.

Thanks for your comment Ken. Indeed you are right, it was a very short lived experiment and things are ‘back to normal’ now.
